Rushing as a Senior

by: Anon

I was thinking about rushing , but will be a Senior this fall. How likely/unlikely is it that I get a bid, also as a woman of color? I am not looking to get into a top house, but one that I feel welcome in. Let me know what you guys think.

As long as you’re an undergraduate, you can totally go through recruitment! Upperclassmen always have a chance to get a bid just like underclassmen do, so if you’re thinking of doing it, I definitely would! Each chapter has something different to offer, and you’ll be able to see for yourself which chapter is the right fit for you. Take everything you read on this site with a grain of salt, and actually get to know the girls you’ll talk to during this time. You’ll find a home where you feel accepted for who you truly are. Good luck to you!! <3

As a woman of color myself I’ll be real with you- being a senior is going to make it a bit harder to get a bid. We want members who can commit more than a year and many chapters can only accept a certain number of seniors. But if we like you we like you. My chapter has given bids to many seniors, it’s far more common than at bigger Greek schools.
As for race the reality is that it makes things harder too. There are many rumors about quotas or discrimination and we can’t pretend it doesn’t exist. But at the same time our Greek community is very accepting and diverse especially compared to many other school out there. Basically you shouldn’t worry too much about these things. If a chapter doesn’t want you for these reasons they’re not the place for you (or anyone tbh). But our Greek system isn’t that nitpicky. We really look at personality and if we click during recruitment.
