bid

by:

If I go through all of rush week without dropping out myself, is there a good chance I'll be offered a bid? If you get invited to pref night, will you most likely get a bid? Or could you be invited to 3 houses for pref and not be given any bid?

You can be invited to a max of two houses for pref night. It is not guaranteed you will have a bid to a house after pref night, BUUUUUT it is a VERY strong chance you will get a bid to one if you make it to two pref nights :)

And by very strong chance, I mean almost guarenteened. But then again, almost. Things can happen!

What happens if both sororities want to offer you a bid, how does that work out? like does the other house know you're getting a bid from a different house so they know not to offer you one or?

the actual system is kind of complicated but the simple version is: you get to rank the houses first and second so if your first house wants you back you get a bid from that house

So basically there's an algorithm. You'll be ranked on a list by both sororities on how badly they want you, you'll also luck which one you want most. From that the algorithm with sort people into houses taking sororities' picks into account first and then your pick second. Sooooo let's say you rush sorority A and sorority B, but you put B as your first and A as your second. Sorority B has you very low on their list and they fill up all their spots with girls they chose high up Who also wanted them back AND girls who put them second but weren't put up high on the list of their first choice. THEN after that they go to the girls who they ranked low on their list who put them first. Idk if it makes sense, but basically sororities do the picking

Make sure you're happy with both of your houses on pref night. I've seen many instances where girls get a bid to their second ranked house during pref. Just because you rank one house as #1 doesn't mean you're absolutely going to get a bid to that house because sometimes things happen

Or if you're really unhappy with one of your houses after pref night, then you can "suicide"- meaning that you do NOT get guaranteed a bid. Suiciding is sometimes I good idea because after pref you sign a contract that makes you have to accept your bid no matter which house it is. So if you absolutely HATE your second choice but you signed the contract, and get a bid from them then you have to accept the bid.
