thinking about rushing in the spring

So my roommate is pledging a fraternity, and was telling me all the things he has to do during pledging. Among it he said he has to do pledge driving and clean the house, which I conpleely understand. However, he just told me me also has to go buy stuff for the current pledges like adderol, dip, and cigarettes. He said he is expecting to spend about a grand during pledging on all this stuff for the brothers. I'm seriously considering rushing next semester, but coming up with money for dues will already be hard enough, so I'm just wondering, is this all fraternities, or just the one he is pledging.
