James Madison University - JMU 2.5 Although i am currently in Greek life, if i were an incoming freshman i wouldn’t waste my money joining a sorority or fraternity anymore. Greek life at JMU used to be so fun but it’s dropped so much in the last semester that I’m actually not even looking forward to next semester. It’s just a bunch of uptight people and uptight rules now.

James Madison University - JMU 4.0 going through it i got to see how it all works and theres more to be recognized at JMU. the school is trying to get rid of all greek life so the students have many pseudo-frats and then the existing frats are just treated like the god-tier parties which works out great for everyone because at that point everyones goal is to get sloshed

James Madison University - JMU 3.5 JMU Greek life is a great way to get involved on campus and in the community, but has a poor alliance with non-Greek life peers.

James Madison University - JMU 3.5 Greek life at JMU is overall good, just the housing sucks and it's fairly small. Being in greek life doesn't make or break your experience at JMU, all I can say is it has personally made my JMU experience great (but everyone is different)

James Madison University - JMU 1.0 Greek life only matters at JMU if ur in it, if you don't rush then it doesn't make a difference. If ur looking for a more rounded Greek life go to UVA

James Madison University - JMU 4.3 If you aren't in Greek life at JMU, it's really hard to have a social life or go to good parties. They're very exclusive and will only let people from their organization in their parties. Their aren't many big houses, but all the good srats and frats have a lot of forest and manor houses. Getting into a sorority isn't hard, but getting into a good sorority (zta, sk, asa) is hard.

James Madison University - JMU 4.0 Fraternities and sororities are very involved on campus. I feel like the whole social scene at JMU revolves around greek life. Most people go to the fraternities rather than off campus parties. I agree with the comment below, greek housing isn't the best which I believe is really holding JMU back. I definitely recommend anybody considering rushing to rush! I feel like JMU acts like only 15% of students are in greek life so you don't feel as pressured join (when it feels like a lot more than that). Fraternities have rush every semester while sorority rush is in the fall (2nd or 3rd week into the semester). As a freshman I didn't participate in sorority rush as I was so overwhelmed with acclimating to the school, the work load, and frankly rushing was the last thing on my mind. Once all my friends rushed and joined sororities, I immediately regretted it. I felt as if they all immediately found their group of friends and always had things planned so I didn't get to see them as much. When you are a new member you are SUPER busy. As a new member you have to attend many mandatory events and activities (so you have to juggle that with your school work). Also, when you are a new member you want to get to know the girls in your pledge class/sorority so you want to spend a lot of time with them and get to know them. After waiting a year, I joined a sorority this past fall as as sophomore and couldn't be happier! I know this sounds so cliche but I feel like I have finally found a close group of friends that are so loving and supportive of each other. I always have someone to hang out, eat lunch with, etc. Not only have I met tons of girls through joining a sorority but I also have met many guys in greek life through social events! Even though I had to wait a year, I feel like it was worth it and have found my "home" at JMU. The process of rushing is exhausting but joining greek life has totally changed my experience here and I highly encourage anyone who is on the fence about doing it to rush! That obviously goes for the guys as well! Lmao I know that was like an essay but just wanted to help
