observations about greek life
by: case western
The environment that GreekRank promotes seems so negative and counterproductive to Greek Life at Case. I feel like people can make assumptions about somebody based on what chapter they are in, but everybody’s chapter is unique and wonderful to them. It has helped them grow as a person (hopefully) and was the right fit for them. I’ve seen lots of people bashing on other chapters or making comparisons and so much negativity in posts and rankings. But from meeting different individuals in all the different chapters, no one is 100% like the stereotypes that have been floating around. And sometimes, people just have a bad or weird interaction with a few or even just one members of a chapter. That does not mean the whole chapter is like that bad interaction! Greek Life should shift their focus back on promoting a safe and encouraging community for students at Case to grow, both socially and as leaders as well as work collaboratively. It’s not about promoting a toxic environment where rumors and stereotypes makes individuals uncomfortable to wear their letters because they’ll feel judged for it or people are looking down on them.
As a member of Greek Life at Case, stereotypes are just that. They’re dumb and do not apply to the majority of any chapter. Each fraternity and sorority has a lot to contribute to this campus and can learn from
each other, it’s not about being “top” or about bringing others down. These members aren’t just defined as members of their Greek Life, they’re fellow students and friends and leaders and mentors in multiple other organizations as well. Get to know them as a person before making assumptions about their character through a chapter they decided to join! It’s not fair to make someone feel bad or insecure about the letters they chose, especially the new members who have joined each chapter and I hope are excited to get to know their fellow chapter members :)
