Coming from someone in one of those houses, this is stupid and some of the worst advice possible for someone going into rush or recruitment.

If you get along with people in a house, join that house. If that house is considered "top tier", great. If it's considered "bottom tier", great. Because when it's all said and done and you're no longer in college, a stupid tier isn't going to matter. What's going to matter more than anything is are who you see as the group of people you fit in with and will be friends with for the rest of your life.
