How important are connections

How important is knowing the girls in the sororities prior to rushing/having recs/connections here?

if you’re a cob it’s pretty important-some houses don’t advertise cob and only invite people they know. but for formal recruitment it’s not important to have connections, and ucsb does not take letters of rec!!
