No one single member can make the decision to give you a bid, so if the girl preffing you tells you you already have one or "you ARE an XYZ" that's a red flag. They just want you to rank them higher so their numbers look better, it doesn't actually guarantee you'll get a bid.
Same with encouraging you to suicide - if they tell you to do that it's just so they look better. Suiciding only makes your chances worse - if you rank both and get your #2 then there's no chance you ever would've gotten your #1. If you suicide and you don't get a bid there's a chance you could've gotten your #1 pick if you had ranked both.
Also if you are only invited to one house on pref - don't panic! You only need one chapter who really wants you on bid day. You can just rank that one and that's not suiciding if it's the only house on your schedule.

this is NOT true. Suicide preffing does not affect your chances and neither house will be able to see your ranking. Also, telling a pnm “I can really see you fitting in at xyz house” is NOT the same as explicitly telling a pnm that she will get a bid. PLEASE TALK TO YOUR RHO GAM to get the correct information instead of asking randos on greekrank

Suiciding is never a good thing to do if your goal is to be in a sorority. All chapters have amazing women. The chapters are big you will find your friends. Also, if you do not suicide and are not given a bid by either your 1st or 2nd choice you will get your 1st choice. That is what causes houses to go over quota. If you are not originally matched to your 1st choice sorority in the first go around, your MRABA is put on hold and they will try everything possible to match you with your 1st choice in the subsequent rounds. If you suicide and you don't match to your 1st choice in the first round then you are removed from bid matching and won't get a bid.
This info is easily accessible if you read the NPC Manual of Information
