is it an issue rushing as a second year?
by: adjHi! I was just wondering if it’s an issue rushing as a second year for a sorority. I know a lot of sororities have set quotas for non-freshmen and I’m worried I won’t get into one because I’m a second year. I didn’t rush my first year because I didn’t really think I would fit in, but after meeting others in Greek life I really wanted to give it a try. Also, does having a good college GPA have any effect on recruitment? I’m at a 3.6 college gpa and I was just wondering if that would help my chances at getting into a sorority.

No, generally it is not an issue rushing as a second-year for a sorority. The quotas begin to bite for third-year transfers more than for second-years. A lot of people find their college interests, such as Greek life, only after arriving and going through freshman year and seeing where they'd like to fit in. That includes those who didn't come to UCSB with any interest in going Greek.
Next, having a good college GPA after a year is a big up for being pledged in a sorority, because GPAs are something that chapters keep track of and compete over. Conversely if a rushee is barely passing school, that would be a negative.
