top sororities

by:

So by reading this site it is pretty clear that the top sororities at jhu are Phi Mu and Alpha Phi and what ever IX is. I know that I should "see where I fit best" but my friends in other schools have told me that the whole rush process is really fake so I would like some outside opinion. Which sorority would someone join if they wanted to be the most social and have a lot of fun? Is it better to be in one of the affiliated sororities or in the other thing?

Don't make the mistake that many girls have already made. If your choice of a sorority based on it's rank, you can end up with no support system and no friends. For example: aphi is a top sorority that won recruitments for three years in a row but their sisterhood is probably the worst. Their sisters are cliquey snd show very little support of each other. They can't even organize decent pregames for their date parties and mixers. Try to get to know the girls before you make your decision and ignore this site.

I agree that you shouldn't choose a sorority solely based on rank- you should choose whichever sorority makes you feel comfortable, at home, and surrounded by awesome people. If you go where you feel at home, you will automatically have a support system and friends. If you pick somewhere you don't feel comfortable, it can be alienating. So if you mesh with aphis, cool! If you mesh with thetas, cool! Pick wherever you feel comfortable, and you'll find sisterhood there.
@not affiliated, I agree that you shouldn't pick a sorority based solely on ranking because if you don't get along with the girls, you can fall into a trap of not finding like-minded people, and not finding the sisterhood you imagined. But I think it's sad to assume that you'll automatically be screwed out of a sisterhood just by joining sorority XYZ. Different people find different sisterhoods that work for them. It's all about where you fit in, not the sorority itself. And friend groups will naturally evolve when you have 150+ girls- I think it's true for all sororities on campus that there are different groups and networks within each.
Pick wherever you feel comfortable. Take Not Affiliated's advice that you should ignore this site- ppl tend to pass quick judgments and assumptions about organizations that they know nothing about

I agree with Greek on her points but I have to add that some sororities have weaker leadership which affects their sisterhood and theirs support system. It can change from election to election, just like their rank.

I would choose an affiliated sorority partially because you can put it on your resume (Most sororities have big Philanthropy/leadership aspects and you're going to be spending a lot of time and money on being in a sorority anyways might as well have it be productive towards your future).

The good thing about JHU is that we don't have rush until the spring so you have a whole semester to meet people before you go into recruitment!

Join clubs, go party with your freshman hall! Meet new people and you will find your crew and join a sorority that fits you.

The truth is that we all go to Hopkins and in my experience most people here are not only here to kick ass in class but to go hard ~perhaps~ too many days in any given week :P

There are girls in every sorority that rage and everyone has mixers with frats and date parties and gets drunk on weekends. Maybe not every individual in every sorority but every organization.

No one can tell you where you should be but you and that's redundant and frustrating. But honestly I love college because it's where you get to find you people, your crew, your ride or die besties so imma be hella corny and just say follow your heart and rage whenever possible

Happy covered grades and welcome to Hopkins

The rush process can be really fake if you meet the wrong girls, but it doesn't have to be. A lot of girls I know met some girls in a particular sorority that completely turned them off to that org, while others were lucky enough to meet girls in the same org that weren't just trying to herd them in to get the best pledge class and ended up making some incredible friends/sisters. Personally I met a variety of fake and genuine girls in every one of the orgs. Fake girls and genuine ones exist in every sorority, regardless of the "tier" and unfortunately it can just be just based on who you meet. My advice would be to meet as many people as possible. Put yourself out there and be humble. Even if you feel an org might not be right for you, if a girl from that sorority invites you out to coffee, go. Even if you met someone you really didn't like in that sorority, give it another chance. Just go out and be social and enjoy covered grades and you'll naturally find the girls you click with. Rush doesn't need to be really fake. If you walk in to a meet up and the girl is similar to you, you'll click and that's it, it's really simple as long as you don't turn it in to a game.
