really starting to dislike theta...
by: FreshmanHi guys, first of all, let me just say that I've had a lot of good conversations with Theta girls and there's a lot of them I really like. On the other hand, though, I'm not having that much fun and I'm dreading having to pay lots of money in dues to stay in a sorority I'm not in love with. I feel bad saying it, but part of it is due to their reputation on campus. I don't feel proud wearing their letters, I just kind of feel like a top 3 reject. During rush I told myself if I didn't get top 3 I'd drop, but I stuck with it and here I am. Every time I see girls wearing letters from cooler sororities I kind of get a pit in my stomach and it makes me just want to drop altogether. I know this is a little mean but I figure this is what this site is for since it's anonymous. Any advice?

Listen, a sorority (or frat)'s popularity/rep will change every year. The sisters who stand by you won't. I understand that everyone takes status into consideration when joining a sorority, but that shouldn't be the main reason/deal breaker. I am also a freshman who pledged Theta (I ranked it above a "top 2" sorority after pref night, actually) and I have zero regrets. I love all the girls in my current pledge class/older members and I am so glad I joined. I would suggest you drop now if you're only in it for status, because that is not what the purpose of a sorority is.

Would you rather say "I'm in theta" or "I'm not in a sorority". Drop now if you don't love em. Theta is socially at the bottom of the food chain (haven't seen a single one at a good party), and honestly that's not gonna change any time soon. Definitely not in the short time you'll be at Hopkins. I would drop if I were you

"Cut out?" Theta isn't even selective.
