is it worth it to join a sorority?

by:

Like is it a good way to meet people and make friends? Do people in Greek life all get to know each other (the ones who participate, I mean)? Or is it just hyped?

Greek life is an incredible way to meet people and make the campus feel smaller. People can hate on it, but most people in Greek life feel really positively about it. I would definitely encourage you to go Greek if you are thinking about it at all

The truth is that it depends. I pledged Phi Mu and their sisterhood was awful. Too many girls who didn't really care about each other and there was a reason their pledge class was so small last year. Friends who rushed other sororities has better experiences.

i think what you meant to say (for the sake of the girls considering rushing and who deserve to go into recruitment with open minds) is that phi mu wasn't the right sisterhood for you, though I know many phi mus who love their sisterhood. If you go into rush with a cookie cutter list of which sororities you want and how you will rank them before your first rush room, then you will have a greater chance of being in a sisterhood where you do not fit. If you go in with an open mind and are mature enough to go through the process without having to conform to what sites like greek rank have to say or other outside influences, then joining a sorority can be the best part of your experience at Hopkins.

that was not my experience at all, i had zero interest in going greek until i met the sisters of phi mu, it was because i met them that i rushed, and it was because of my involvement in this organization that i have met some of my best friends, and have the strongest support group of lovely women that i have ever had in my entire life

i would 100% recommend it. as someone who had not been interested in greek life prior to arrival at hop, i cannot over emphasize how impactful sisterhood has been to me, if you are on the fence about it id highly recommend going to FSL events and talking to sisters, you can tel when someone is being earnest, and they can probably paint you a better picture of the benefits of going greek

By: at least go to FSL events
