PC RECRUITMENT ADVICE

Hey PNM. Having a good day 1 of recruitment but still don't know which org to join? Here's some HONEST advice to help you decide which sorority is the best for you.
1. Numbers matter: A sorority with many sisters is able to not just recruit well but keep girls throughout the years, and more girls means more potential friends. A sorority with few sisters has more difficulties recruiting and keeping girls active, ask yourself why that may be. Hint: The sisters are miserable.
2. Money matters: Not just to the sororities but it should matter to you too. You'll invest $400-$700 for 3 months of events this semester. Ask the girls what events are coming up, check out the IGs to see past events, look around the room to get a glimpse of what these events will look like, take into account whether the sorority is inclusive (pay everything upfront) or not inclusive (pay each event separately).
3. Accomplishments matter: Sororities with sisters that hold leadership positions in non-Greek student orgs have a stronger support system. Other ways to determine this are pageant, Homecoming, Roarathon, Relay, or Greek Week winners. A stronger support system will encourage you to get involved, to gain experience, to do everything you set your mind to. Uninvolved and competition-losing sororities have weak sisterhoods if any at all.
4. Looks matter: I'm not talking about physical appearance, I mean what you see is what you get. An example: A sorority posts beautiful girls and girls traveling around the world on their IG. However, these girls are usually alone in their pictures rather than with other sisters, ask yourself why that may be. Hint: The sorority recruits superficially (pretty/rich) and the sisters aren't really friends. FIU and Greek events don't count, they're forced hangouts.
4. Philanthropy matters...JK: Do NOT join a sorority just because you like their philanthropy. Philanthropy events are open to everyone and you'll be able to participate even if it's not your own organization hosting it. In other words, you can still raise money and awareness for the cause without being in that sorority.
5. Grades matter: Sororities with higher GPAs always get dibs, and the girls have good grades because the sorority allows them to prioritize being a student. Sororities with low GPAs prioritize being a sorority girl and in some cases a party girl. It might be fun but you'll regret it; you're joining a sorority in college, not the other way around.
6. Tiers matter: In spite of what everyone will tell you, there is such a thing as top and bottom. Specific rankings are subjective but generally bottom tier sororities will try to do what the top tiers are doing. Identify who's top and who's bottom by who did it first (or better). Whether they truly matter is up to you but it can't be fun always looking up.
7. Wear a bralette or sports bra on bid day, the shirt they give you could be a tank top.
