Yes, the potential new members are required to leave their purses and all of their belongings outside while they are in the house. There are very strict rules in panhellenic on what you can bring into and out of the house, because even a napkin can be considered a "gift" which would be considered dirty rushing so it just works out best if they are left outside! They are watched at all times by the Gamma Chis or recruitment counselors, and I assure you that they are safe. Besides, rush takes place weeks before school starts and there is usually not that many people on campus anyway.
