Do the Chios really have to get in a coffin during initiation?

My friend at another school said yes. She ended up dropping so she didn't care. Apparently, they sing or chant while you are in a coffin so you can be reborn a chi o. There's a dead stuffed owl too.

They were trying to differentiate between a stuffed animal and just some dead owl that wasn't stuffed.

Luckily if that freaks you out there are many other houses. However if you love Chi O so far, I would imagine that it will be ok. I haven't seen them carting out any bodies of girls who died from fright during initiation.

I've always wondered where they buy the coffins and where they keep them. I mean... Is it just out in the middle of the chapter room or what?

It's totally real! The Lizzie Bordan and Bloody Mary! Both were Chi O's

I didn't realize that Chi O had been around that long. Bloody Mary was born in 1516. Only about 400 years ago.

You actually either researched the life of Bloody Mary (I admit, I thought she was only someone to scare little girls at slumber parties) or knew this information. Your comment made me laugh out loud. I now know why Chi-O's are said to be so uptight! Relax girl, it was a joke. No one believes any of this silliness. Jeez...

It is not an urban legend. There have been various reports and legal cases about it.

Are you supposed to tell what happens during initiation? At my house we wouldn't ever tell what happens.

I mean she didn't go into detail on our rituals, she just comfirmed we don't have a coffin! I'm a legacy, and my mom said back in the 80's there wasn't a coffin either. Every sorority has legends about it.
