The real tea
by: DiversityLet’s start an open discussion about the lack of diversity in fraternity’s. I saw sorority’s making steps in the right direction this year in recruitment but what about frats. And I don’t want to hear the “ none of them are interested in it” as an excuse. If that’s the case how do you make your brotherhood more inviting to where they would be willing to join? No hate, just wanting to start a discussion!

There is a definitely a lack of critical thinking skills on your part if you are serious. Our student population is 2.8% black, you know why? Because we don’t have a large black population in Oklahoma and our school isn’t some magnet for kids out of state. Fraternities are not nearly as big as sororities here (it’s like a 6 to 1 ratio and thats being generous). In addition to all of that if you are black you are more likely to rush a black fraternity. It’s really that simple stop trying to stir up drama that isn’t even there.

I’m probably in the most diverse fraternity that had a house and there was about 32 people who registered themselves as minorities when entering rush (The majority of them Native American) and when it came to African Americans there were only 2 who were registered. My fraternity had more African American members than how many signed up this entire rush. It’s almost impossible to recruit people who don’t want to join greeklife. Okstate is also one of the most white major state schools in the nation that had a proper Greek life meaning our rates of POCs in our chapters is probably lower than most. I have heard of only one other chapter on campus not recruiting people of color because their alumni was against it but despite that they still had a person of color.

Lord have mercy it’s like they can’t read. Everyone is aware that osu is predominantly white, which would equate to fraternity’s being predominantly white. However, can you really say every fraternity on campus is poc friendly?? Nope. Work on that. No one is saying any frat is going to be half black. What they are saying is that fraternity should be trying harder to be inclusive to where poc would feel comfortable joining. Maybe y’all should sit down and ask the cultural frats why they didn’t rush ifc and see what they’d say.

Just because a house is willing to extend bids does not make them poc friendly. But really? All of them?? I know plenty of ranchy poc that would never dream of setting foot in AGR. I suggest you have an in person discussion with a poc about this, because repeating that osu has more White kids doesn’t change the fact that the current rush system isn’t giving them as much opportunity.

Great! Now why do you think that is? What way could we alter the current Greek system to make it more poc friendly? There are already predominantly black fraternity’s, so I wouldn’t say they aren’t interested in a brotherhood.
