Strip Your Letters

by:

Hi lovely PNM’s (and actives lol)!! Please check out @stripyourletters on instagram. It focuses on issues in KU’s Greek life specifically but many of the issues are problems found in Greek life at every school. It’s always a good idea to educate yourself before committing to something like this and especially so that you can be part of the solution not the problem regarding these issues!

I do agree that some of those things are issues at OSU, and I’m not going to speak on the racial issues described because as a white person I just simply have no personal encounters with that so I have no valid contributions there, but a lot of the things like the dangers of their date parties is completely shocking to me and not something that I’ve experienced anything even close to at OSU. I just want to make sure PNMs don’t live in fear of that, and my chapter specifically condemns any type of date party themes or costumes based on cultural appropriation as I’m sure most if not all do.

I appreciate your thoughtful response! This movement was originally created to demand more of and push the Panhellenic Association of the University of Kansas to enact change and create and reform policies to protect the women in Greek organizations. Many of the things highlighted on this instagram are things that have been accepted in KU Greek life as normal, and we have attempted to portray them in ways that show how they could be harmful to women with different experiences. I’m extremely glad to hear that your organization seems to actively work to condemn these types of things and keep your members safe! I am also pleased to hear that you have not had those poor experiences, however, that does not mean it does not exist for other women on your or any campus. Everything written on our instagram has been inspired by women of KU’s personal stories and experiences and our goal is to fight for change until there are no longer these experiences had on campus.
