More Diversity in Sororities
by: BLMI feel like I should say something here because I have personally heard people of color refer to panhellenic as “white girl sororities” and how they’d rather go to multicultural ones. It makes me sad to know that some girls are afraid to go through recruitment because most houses only have white girls. I can speak for the majority of sororities at OSU when I say that we would LOVE having more diversity and want girls of all types coming through recruitment. I know for a fact that race has absolutely nothing to do with getting a bid from my house and the lack of diversity is really just due to the fact that so many girls with darker skin won’t go through recruitment because they feel like they won’t fit in :( Please don’t be scared and Go Greek!!

Totally agree! I can speak for my house as well when I say we go by involvement, grades, etc, and NEVER looks or race. It’s sad to me that the sororities aren’t more diverse than they are, but the demographics of the houses reflect the demographics of those who rush. Please don’t feel like you can’t do it!

Just FYI you can say poc rather than “girls with darker skin” Or just say you would like to see more diversity. Speaking more correctly is definitely a process that we are all working on right now and I know that no one is upset, it’s just important to point out instances where we can change our language to make sure it’s as inclusive as possible and not insensitive to people of color. But I loved your message!
