COR has nothing to do with "great new member classes." It has to do with the amount of members they had before/after they got their new PC. It's all about numbers, not necessarily quality.

soooo they didn't get enough girls to fill their house total numbers? Can't they take extra during recruitment if they need to? I just think it's strange.

I've said it on here before--COR isn't necessarily a bad thing. I house can still make quota and do COR is their whole house total is down. This can happen for a variety of reasons--girls transferring to another school, going to nursing school, dental hygiene school, semester abroad, student teaching, etc., etc. Sure the lower tier houses usually do COR every year but even some of the mid and upper tier houses have done COR and got great girls. Some girls don't go through recruitment for reasons like commitments during recruitment week, or from a small town and formal recruitment is overwhelming. I don't think any house should be judged for COR.

They usually are judged for it though.

If they do COR it has nothing to do with how good their pledge class is. I happen to know that KD got the exact number of girls they wanted. But no matter what house someone is in, they have to have a certain number of members. If girls drop, or seniors become inactive for whatever reason they have to get someone to replace them to keep that golden number.

Quota is the number of new members that a sorority can bid and that number is set during formal recruitment, usually after pref. parties. A simplistic description is quota is the number of PNMs who sign a bid card divided by the number of sororities. If quota is 60, that is the maximum that each sorority can take during formal recruitment.

Total is the maximum amount of members that a sorority can have. The only time that a sorority is allowed to exceed Total is when pledging quota would take their membership above Total. That is why you might see that a sorority has 180 members but total is 140.

If a sorority does not pledge the quota amount, let's say for our purposes 60, they may continue to hold informal recruitment events until they met quota. So if ABC sorority gets 58 new members they can pledge 2 more girls anytime within the school year.

If a sorority is below Total, they can hold informal recruitment events anytime throughout the year and offer bids to as many girls as they need to bring their numbers up to campus Total.
