totally cut?
by: SJWhat makes a PNM get cut from all houses? How likely/often does that happen? Does it usually happen early in the recruitment process?

Most commonly PNM's are cut completely for grades, if that's going to happen you will most likely have very few houses after house tours before philanthropy (by then most of the big cuts are made). Other things you could get for would be looks (like you look like a mess and it doesn't seem like you care). You could also get cut for being rude or not being able to hold a conversation. That being said grades are the most common thing PNMs are cut for

Well I know a girl who had a 4.0 - pretty and nice but was cut. I think a lot of it has to do with who you pick as your top choices - if there is not a match on day one you get cut and they had to cut a ton of girls last year.
Also know a girl who had meh grades, but was in social clubs and cheer - plus she's gorgeous and got a middle tier bid.
In my opinion, there's no tried and true method to get a bid.

Girls can deny it all they want, but there is some element of luck involved. There are so many girls going through recruitment with great grades and sparkling personalities that after a day of rush parties they all kind of blend together. Even an amazing conversation can be forgotten pretty fast (on both sides)
#5by: sure thing
There isn't anything like a sure thing. The girls with the most success are the ones who come from larger schools or towns and have lots of friends who were a year or two older in high school and are already in houses. If they are well liked, those girls will pull for their friends.

From the sound of it, I don't think @rush has ever been through recruitment as a member of a sorority.
You need to have a 3.2 to be competitive academically. If you don't know have this you will be cut from all top and middle tier houses, unless you are a legacy or maybe have a best friend in the chapter that is fighting hard for you.
You need to personable. There's so many girls coming through recruitment, so it's your job as a PNM to try hard to relate to the girl rushing you and make sure you have a memorable conversation (we as recruiter also strive to do the same). An average conversation can get you released from a chapter. Especially if the chapter has high rentention rates, that means they can't invite as many girls back. So why would they invite back a girl who they had an ok convo with as opposed to the girl they had an amazing convo with.
You need to look nice during recruitment and be involved. These girls are looking at you to see if you are a person who they would be proud to call their sister. This means you should do your best to look nice and cute, to show the chapter that your morals and standards align with theirs, and what passions and skill you possess that could possibly benefit the chapter (choir, dance and cheer for shows, a lot of leadership positions in HS for campus leadership, etc)
To make my point– there is a method to recruitment, good girls slip through the cracks because they either have below a 3.2, have an average conversation
