hesitant about rushing

by: GreekFuture

Hey, I'm really hesitant about rushing because of I don't know if i could be a fit. I have a 3.0 GPA,I'm involved in debate, president of a club and volunteer. Visually, I'm African American 5'6" 110 lbs and I'd give myself a 7.5/10 out of looks- but I'm probably the worst judge of my looks. My personality is fun-loving, adventurous, active, outgoing when comfortable and I love group games of any kind- board games, card games, truth or dare and really anything that involves being social and having fun. I'm also an activist who enjoys chatting about social issues and politics.

-So, will my race hinder my rushing experience?

-Is my GPA going to be a huge problem in joining a sorority?

-Is a recommendation necessary/Could I still get into a house I wanted without a recommendation?

1. Race won't hurt your rushing experience. A lot of the houses have african american women and panhellenic is striving to be more diverse and inclusive. All of the houses are lovely and I haven't ever heard of their being issues in regard to race.

2. GPA is probably the thing that hurts the most girls. It might limit your opportunities a little bit but it also sounds like you are super involved so that should help.

3. Don't stress over recs. If you can get them that's great, if not it's not a huge deal. It won't hurt you at all if you don't get them. Positive recs rarely even help a PNM.

Anyway's I was unsure about going greek but it's easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. I would highly recommend it, even if recruitment doesn't go the way you want it to you will meet tons of great people and could always go through COB if you still want to go greek. Best of luck to you:)
