low invites

by:

I have a 4.0, was semi-active in high school, had personalized recs, and from what others say, am "cute." Why did I get a low amount of invites?

Some houses at OSU are extremely selective and have a lot of interst from PNMs. They can cut who they want when they want. Don't worry about how many invites you have received. Continue on with what you have and try to keep an open mind even though it is hard. Don't talk about boys, partying or any of the other houses, either. Be friendly and easy to talk to. If there is a a lull in the conversation, ask questions. Get to know the person rushing you...just my 2cents.

Recruitment is so hard. How do you show your personality in such a short time and not come across fake? Just a rhetorical question, but I do feel like I've been slapped

30 minutes for the first step isn't much, especially when you consider the houses are seeing 900+. It is very hard. If my daughter had not gone to Greek Discovery, she would have been completely lost. She only has a few left.

OSU, don't give-up and try the COB. Sounds like that gives everyone a better chance to get to know each other.

That is very true. Hundreds and hundreds of girls in such a short time. Thank you for your encouraging words. I appreciate it!

I was cut from all but one. The one that remained was not one that I fit into or related to the girls I spoke with. So rather than spend thousands of dollars to be in a place that wasn't a good fit I decided to pass. I'm sure there's some girls who would love that sorority because it was a good fit for them.

OSU, I am impressed with your maturity! I always tell PNMs not to take being cut personally...even if you're cut from several houses. That is so hard to grasp for many girls. But you don't want to pledge a house you don't feel a fit with. Maybe try COB if there is a house you're intereated or join a group within your major. There are many many ways to get involved!!!

Did you talk about? Did you talk about your boyfriend? Did you talk about friends in other sororities? Did you talk about politics? That you are a legacy?

I don't have a boyfriend. Even if I did, I wouldn't spend an interview speaking aboit him. The interview is about my ideas, my dreams, my aspirations – not his. I'm my own person, but I'm no legacy. Friends? I'snt that the reason to rush - to make new friends? I spoke about my passions, my family, a future business I'd like to create, what I did during high school, and how I'd be honored to take any position to help the sorority. Politics? No. I know talking politics and religion is a no no and frankly, no ones business.

You sound darling and I'm sure lots of houses missed out on a great sister. My suggestion is to get to know lots of sorority girls this year and make some great friends in a house. If you tell them that you are interested in being in a sorority and that you love their house, they might pull for you in COB or in formal next year.

You listed seem like interesting things to talk about. If you feel up to it, sign up with Panhellenic for COB.

OSU-I am so sorry you had a tough rush but let hopefully give you some encouragement.
First, consider COB. It is more relaxed, few girls and more time for the house to get to know you and vise-versa. Not all houses participate but keep that as an option.
Second, in my house, a girl came through and was released. She ended up dropping recruitment for the same reason as you. During her freshman year, she was very active on campus, made great grades and had the opportunity to get to know several girls in different houses. The next year she went through again and every house wanted her. She ended up as president of our house. I know it hurts right now but it doesn't have to be the end of your journey!!

Thank you for shedding some light on the situation. It helps me and probably some other girls reading this who were released. I know it's not personal and shouldn't be taken that way. Really, 900 girls coming through 15 sororities is crazy! I think the girls need to switch with the guys, we get 28 sororities and they get 15 fraternities. Problem solved ;)! I did sign up for COB and will wait to see how things go. Thanks again and good luck to all!

Be sure you let your friends know you're interested in cob. Even ones that take quota may have a spot or two due to early graduation in December. So make some good friends and let them pull for you.
