fall recruitment
by: ShyPNMI'm shy and really nervous about the recruitment process. I don't really know anyone in any of the houses and hear you need someone pulling for you to get a bid. I have an open mind and think I'd like any of the houses -- I've been impressed with all the girls I've met and during Discovery. I'm just worried I'll get totally cut because I don't have any connections and my GPA is only 3.5. Any advice would be appreciated

If you are shy, the best thing you can do is spend the summer practicing talking to people you don't know and getting over your shyness some. Even in a COB situation, if you can't talk to the girls in the house, you are less likely to get a bid. Just make yourself practice saying something like "It's sure hot out there today," when you get coffee. Or "Do you have any plans for the weekend?" when you're getting a pedicure.

Definitely practice. You can learn to make small talk and I promise the more you practice the easier it is. I am shy and I dreaded going through recruitment too for that reason. My mom gave me this advice and then made me interact with people she knew and neighbors etc all summer. By August I felt like I could do 15 minutes with anyone. It has really been a life changer because now I don't dread social situations the way I used to. Grow. That's what college is all about.
