third times a charm
by: Just give up?So I started fall rush last year and dropped because of some other issues. Then I just tried to go through Pi phis recruitment and didn't get a bid. Next fall ill be a junior. At the point of it being my third time and I'm a junior should I just give up on the whole Greek life thing. I really just wanted like a solid group of girls to hang out with and support me, and now I don't know what to feel.

It's harder to get picked when you're older and I don't want to see you upset if you don't get in anywhere.
The sorority will be making less money from you when you're older unless you're in a 5 or 6 year program. That's why being younger has an advantage.
If you really want to go for it and feel like you can then do it! I joined as a sophomore and was apprehensive about it because there were so many freshman!! There were few juniors but some still got bids!

Pleas don't give up if you really want it. There's no harm in trying. ALSO would you consider the AOE sorority? They are an associate member of Panhellenic and still do fun stuff and hang out with each other :)
Pro tip... Often during spring sororities already kinda know who they are picking. Say a girl has three good friends she thinks would be a good fit, they try and just put them in. That makes it hard when a sorority only has a handful of spots and they pretty much have filled most. Don't get down about it girl!

What's your GPA? You need a 2.5 to rush and some houses require even higher. I know for a fact that Pi Phi had to cut a lot of girls that they really liked due to GPA cause my roommate in there told me. It's a national rule that they can't take anyone with less than a 2.5.
If you have above a 2.5, aren't awkward, and didn't act vulgar, then I'm sure they liked you. It's just like the above posters said, spring is really competitive and they only had 10 slots to fill. Roomie said that it was a very tough selection for them cause there were so many girls that they adored, but they couldn't take all of them. If it makes you feel any better, there was a girl in her PC who did spring as a sophomore, didn't get a bid, and then did fall as a junior and got in so I think it's worth a shot!
And idk what's going on with formal since there's all this talk about deferring it to spring semester, but I'm sure there will be more options in the fall so you'll find a home somewhere! Usually the "top" houses take less juniors than the others, but you don't seem to care about the tiers which is good! Keep an open mind and try again! If you don't at least try, then you for sure won't get a bid.

Do NOT give up! It was most likely NOT because they didn't like you! Sooooo many girls came for recruitment! Other sororities may care what year you are but I've been told Pi Phi doesn't! You should absolutely come back! Usually fall has a 50+ pledge class so do not take it as a personal blow at all.

If you are still interested in joining a sorority try again in the fall. It is expected that first time freshmen will not be allowed to rush then. Sororities will still have their large usual number of girls to replace and there will be a much smaller group of girls rushing. The odds will be in your favor then. Good luck!

DON'T GIVE UP! Please don't listen to anyone. Try Again. I have plenty of friends who were juniors when they joined their sororities. Keep your head up and try in the Fall. Good Luck!
