gpa questions
by: transferI have a 2.8, basically cause of two classes at my previous school. But I am transferring in the fall as a junior and wanted to rush. Greek Life at my old school wasn't too great, but I've always wanted to rush. So my question is, which sororities are really serious about high GPA's and which aren't. Theres two that I really was interested in just because their philanthropy is something I support daily, and another because the only other person in my family to be in greek life (my great aunt) was in it. But I wanted to see if either of them would even be an option for me. Any advice would be helpful, thank you.

The minimum rush gpa requirement is a 2.5 so you should be ok to rush any of the houses! Because you are going to be a junior make sure you tell girls who are rushing you how long you'll be at the university. Some houses are known for only bidding freshman and sophomores and some are known for taking juniors and even seniors. You'll end up where you're supposed to be at the end of the week and don't worry about being a junior. If you like a house and they like you go for it!

Just because WVU requires a 2.5 GPA to rush that doesn't mean that every house requires a 2.5. Each chapter has their own GPA requirement and most of the first round cuts are based off of GPA. I think that's what the original poster is asking about.
I can't speak for every sorority, but I know that Pi Phi and DG require a 2.5 and Alpha Xi requires a 2.7. I think Chi O requires a 3.0 and Kappa has a pretty high GPA requirement as well. Idk what the others require, but they're all within the 2.5-3.0 range. I'm gonna be completely honest, I rushed with a low GPA and I was cut pretty heavily early on. You might have a better chance than I did since your GPA is in the mid-range, but still expect to see some cuts, especially from the more competitive houses. Ultimately, I ended up where I belonged, even though it wasn't my first choice. I think that you should definitely rush and keep an open mind. The above poster is right in that not every house will take juniors, but my pledge class had quite a few so just clarify that you'll be around for a while and it shouldn't be a problem. Try to avoid picking favorites this early and trust that as long as you keep an open mind and stay true to yourself, you'll find your home. Good luck, girl!
