welcome to the new greek life
by: Real DealMost of you on this site are delusional. Look at all the scrutiny fraternities and sororities are under around the nation, not just WVU. Times are changing. The days of Animal House are over and does it suck? Yeah, but it only took the repetitive actions of a few to change the way it is. You all maybe need a reality check that none of our organizations were founded on the ability to out party each other. There has been a big shift in fraternities over the past 5 years. It used to be Phi Psi, Beta, Pi Kapp, Kappa Sig throwing down, but look where that got them. The girls that only want to party, look where that got them. In reality the ones who prosper will be the ones who can keep a balance and be smart about their actions, the ones who will have good leaders in place and aren't out just to try and have a better party than the fraternity next door. There needs to be unity and until that happens, you can continually watch all the Greek organizations disappear.

Be smart people. Learn that just because you wear different letters doesn't make you different than any other fraternity. Every fraternity has a few weird and creepy guys, every fraternity has athletic guys, every single one has try hards. Relax. Unless you're taking 5 pledges each semester, you're going to be diverse. Now we are going to be operating on a deferred rush situation (6 weeks) and maybe not even having rush the first semester. Here's the way I see it playing out for the foreseeable future (coming from a guy who's fraternity was kicked off)
Alpha Sig- relatively new guys, but with the old Kappa Sig house, they could become relevant. Have some weird guys but have heard positives about some of their brothers. It's tough starting out, but with a house they could make big strides.
DTD- On the rise. They're diverse and just got their old house back which is really clutch for them. If they can have some solid socials and continue to make themselves known in the public eye, they could rise high quickly.
KA- They're a lot better than they were 5 years ago. They had a lot of house issues (as far as brothers filling it, Sigma Nu shared it with them one year) but they seem to have that figured out. They're parties are always pretty fun and they're brothers have gotten better. If they can get involved on campus more, it will help them stay out of the negative spotlight. Be smart and they could be top tier in a few years

PIKE- Pike is probably the most fluctuating chapter on this campus. One year they look like they're going to be elite and then the next they look like they're at the bottom of the totem pole. Continually promising a new house has hurt them and required them to take a lot of pledges to dig them out of debt. They are involved heavily on campus and are alright socially. If they could actually get a solidified house they could be mid-upper tier
Pi Kapp- On campus right now, but you can pretty much kiss them good bye as the next fraternity gone. Countless issues with their house, brothers and relations with the city and university.
SAE- They have a chance to be top tier. Although they lost their prime location of a house, it looks like they might get the Pi Kapp house (not as nice but at least a house). If the alumni gets some money flowing into that house they could be great. Brothers are well liked (for the most part) and they are involved and pretty good with sorority relations. Their pledging process could be detrimental but it depends on how they play that card. Could be really good or bottom tier soon.

Sammy- Moving up the board quickly. They used to be weird and with no house they were essentially irrelevant. However with gaining the Phi Psi house (which they will have for at least 3 more years), they have an opportunity to gain great brothers and continue to improve. They have a great brotherhood and are involved on campus. One to watch.
Sigma Nu- These guys blew up pretty quick a few years ago and a lot of people hated on them but I think they're respected. They're well balanced and not elite in any category, just solid all around. They have a great image on campus and with the university. Their brotherhood is solid, they recruit well and their new philanthropy was a hit with the girls. Now that they've established themselves well with those aspects they need to work on their social status (although some of the parties like Wine Wednesday is good). If they get a house, watch out because many girls like these guys but a house has been killing them.
Sig Ep- Another group that will greatly benefit from a house. Sort of like Sigma Nu (re-colonized) but didn't blow up as fast as them. Small but close knit brotherhood. Good in all aspects but lacking in social status. Another group that could really benefit from a new house. Used to be solid on campus so keep an eye out for them. Get along well with everyone as well.

Sigma Chi- A group that could be top tier if they clean up their act. They got in trouble this past year with some hazing issues but do know how to throw a solid party. People either love them or hate them. They have good established social scene but need to get more involved on campus. Always in the eye of the city and need to chill with fights with TKE. Another one that could go south quick if they're not careful
TKE- Hated by most and loved by few but they've come a long way the past few years. Used to be known for creepiness and issues with girls but I think those rumors have gone and past. Great brotherhood and the social scene is decent. Have some issues with their house (paying rent) which could become a factor soon if they aren't careful. Rising now but could quickly fall with stupidity moves/fights. Get involved on campus and they'll be fine.
Theta Chi- Chill group of guys who mostly keep to themselves. Half of their guys are really great and half are weird. Fun socials and they have some involvement on campus. Their house is really hurting them but if they can figure something out with that, they could be close to the top soon.
AGR- 'Merica. They keep to themselves and don't get involved in anybodies business. Throw one of (if not the best) party of the year with Hog Roast. Don't really care about sorority relations (although a lot of girls have fun there) and just do whatever they do to get by. A new house is in the works for them.

Sammy, KA, SAE as top tier?? KA only one with a chance and its a small chance. I'd say phi sig Sig chi for sure. Then maybe pike and tke I don't know they all suck after that

the stupidity in this article is insane. You really think the new top tier frats are gonna be the fraternities with "high GPA's" and "most community service" your insane. Frats get kicked off all the time. Top tier is still defined by who can party the best. Your an idiot who doesn't know much about greek life

Agree with everything except your "3 years from now" post. Anything can happen in 3 years. There's no accurate way to predict who will be what tier, especially at a school like WVU
