on the rise..?
by: JWWhat fraternities are low profile right now but are on the rise and will be mid to top tier in the next couple of years?

Honestly with the Frats that are getting houses next semester and holding them I expect Alpha Sig to go up quite a bit because they got a house after only being here a few year and didn't have alumni dragging them like DTD. DTD has way too negative of a reputation right now to go up for at least 4 years. Sigma Nu is Sigma Nu, just there.

If you were to rank the top "new" Fraternities on campus, DTD would easily be the best. Hold...let me explain. DTD a longer history at "WVU" than any other Fraternity. Technically Phi Sig is the first Fraternity at "WVU" because DTD was established 25+ years prior when it was still a farm school. In a year DTD is buying a house (technically buying it back) and had $1.5+ million in alumni donations. That's pretty significant. They had the largest pledge class of the Spring, with every brother holding above a 2.75 gpa. No they didn't take every kid that rushed...they turned down more than half, albeit a lot bc of gpa requirements. My point stands that they have established more in less than a year than most Fraternities in a decade. However, if completing with already established Fraternities, they don't stand a chance. Although you're comparing a Fraternity that largely started underground to Fraternities that had a house. So if you take that into account...they're doing pretty well. They are still years away from competing with top contenders like Phi Sig and Sig Chi though but their future is definitely on the uptick. My words would be invest while you can because we're seeing a trend of shifting powers on campus right now with major Fraternities under the microscope. Fortunately for DTD they are heavily backed by the University. They did get SAEs house when SAE is definitely the most "ideal" Fraternity on campus right now. They've had a monopoly over SGA and IFC since 2009.

As far as DTD being "nerdy" that's fine because those are the kids that help run the Fraternity and keep it from going under. Although they have several kids from the hockey team and rugby team as well. All-around they have little bit of everything and I'm sure that will continue when they make the jump from 70 brothers to over 90 in the next year with the increase of exposure with a house on Fraternity row.

What's negative about DTD? They are just new and had to accept a decent amount to get the numbers for the house. They are no different than Pike or Theta Chi.
