sorority recruitment questions

by:

Hi girls! My baby sister is coming to WVU from out of state and she is planning to go through recruitment. Unfortunately mine and our mom's sorority is not not there so she will be adding a new sorority to our family tradition. I don't know anyone at WVU so could you answer a couple of questions and help?

How competitive is recruitment there? Is it pretty laid back or more crazy like an SEC recruitment? She is really cute, has a high GPA and lots of activities, but pretty shy and I am worried she could get overlooked because she isn't outgoing and won't know anyone. Will recommendations help her stand out or are they the kind of thing that everyone has to have or they'll get dropped first round like at my school?

Any other advice? Thanks so much!

Although wvu isn’t a southern school, recruitment is still kind of crazy. I had full days so I didn’t get much of a break and it was a lot. I would say if you’re attractive, have a good GPA and did a lot in high school you pretty much have your pick out of the chapters. One thing though is maybe practice some recruitment questions with her? I think being outgoing is really important when you’re talking to the active members but not knowing anyone or being from out of state is okay. I wish her good luck!!

It isn’t that competitive as a whole. Trying to get into a top tier sorority can be pretty competitive though. You can always have a friend or friends talk to her so she can practice talking to people she doesn’t tend to talk too. A practice recruitment can help her. She doesn’t need to know anyone since a lot of girls have got in for the big reason of wanting to make new friends due to not knowing anyone. If she’s a bit shy it shouldn’t be a big deal as long as she can hold simple conversation without so much awkward pauses. Just engaging in the talks with the active member and or just asking simple questions about the sorority can help with her shyness. It is crazy recruitement since you don’t get much breathing room in terms of rush week since day after day you go through a night of recruitment besides the first the day where you meet all the sororities.
