dropping after bid

by:

I went through recruitment and didn't get the sororities I necessarily wanted, but decided to give one a try and accept the bid because I was told that just accepting the bid does not mean you have to stay. I wanted to go to a few events and such, but if I don't fall in love with the sorority how do I drop before initiation? Who do I talk to, and will it hurt my chances of being accepted into a sorority next year? Will they be mad?

I have the same problem. The girls in my sorority ask me how I honestly feel about it and I don't know to tell them the truth or pretend like everything I great. What are the chances of a girl getting a sorority sophomore year if she took a bid and dropped before initiation? Would I have to tell my sorority the truth as to why I am really dropping?

If someone is asking how you honestly feel, be honest! It's normal to reconsider. Meeting a ton of new girls that are expected to be your new "family" is intense, forming friendships take time...it doesn't just happen overnight. I'm sure you're not the only girl with these feelings and it might even make your relationships stronger to admit it. I encourage you to be honest about what you're feeling and stick with it a little longer!

I was told that it doesn't affect your chances in a new sorority so I hope that whoever said that wasn't lying, as long as you do it before initiation. It might be rude though to stay in it for too long if you know you're going to drop

If you know you're going to drop, do it now. However, sororities may see you as a liability because you accepted a bid and dropped.

What if I really want it to work and give it a chance but I don't have a true sense of belonging yet? I sometimes feel out of place and the only time I feel relief is when I confide my true feelings to somebody. Shouldn't I be happy/ excited rather than sad and jealous?

If you want to make it work, give it a genuine effort. Maybe drop before big/little if you KNOW it just isn't right. It's really hard and expensive for a girl to decorate your room and think she's getting a little, only to have you drop. Keep meeting people, try to talk about how your feeling and I bet you'll get more support than you imagined. Pledge moms are built to deal with this and if you're feeling this way maybe your friends in your pledge class are too.

Remember, it's hard to find a "true sense of belonging" in ANY group, in just 4 days.

i'm feeling the same way, but they aren't telling the new members when big/little week or initiation is.. so its hard to know when to drop or how long i should stick it out. I'm definitely trying though
