pep talk for the pnms
by: Greek
Hey PNMs,
First I want to say, congrats on making it this far! The hard part is over and now all you have to do is enjoy bid day tomorrow. So let's have a little talk before that...I know some (or a lot) of you will be disappointed when you get a bid to chapter x, y, or z tomorrow. THAT'S OK! Not everyone loves their bid the first day, but most grow to love their chapter more than you can imagine. The important thing is that you accept your bid and give it a chance.
You may say "I felt so awk in that room"/"I just CAN'T imagine being friends with those girls"/"I heard they don't party much". WHATEVER the excuse is, it's an excuse. You probably talked to 10 girls in their chapter, max. A very small cross section of what they have to offer, not to mention you haven't even met your pledge class yet!
Zero damage is done by you accepting your bid and going through the new member process. Dues aren't owed until you're initiated so stick the first few weeks out! Meet the new girls and see how you feel. If you make it to initiation and realize this group of girls really isn't for you then drop. You can rush again next year.
I joined a chapter where a lot of girls thought they were "above" their bid. But we stuck it out and figured out we had a lot more in common than we thought. My chapter knew what I wanted in a sorority before I even did.
TL;DR You owe it to yourself to accept your bid and try it. It's free and won't hurt your chances if you want to rush again next year.
