pnms please read

Dear pnms:

You are right.. recruitment sucks and is superficial. It's not a perfect process. But it's the process we use, and (as I'm sure you've been told) it tends to work out surprisingly well for girls who stick through it. Just like they won't know everything wonderful about you, you might misjudge them. Seriously. So if you get a bid, take it, even if it's not what you wanted. I know so many girls who went through recruitment as freshman and dropped bc they didn't get what they wanted. They went through again as sophomores, got matched with the same sororities, and actually gave them a chance. I've talked to them about it and their only regret is that they didn't join when they had the chance as freshman.

So please please please, those of you who haven't dropped yet, don't... you only have one more day. Accept a bid if you get one. If it is from your top choice, congrats! If it isn't... give the sorority 2 weeks and keep an open mind. if you can't find 3 girls that you connect with, fine, then drop. But you might be surprised by how much you like a sorority in real life (you know, not in a super awkward/superficial/hot+noisy setting). In 6 months, you won't regret spending an extra 2 weeks getting to know a sorority, but you very well may regret giving up the chance to do so.

Snaps all around. I was do glad this website remained calm the first week but this has gotten out of control. All I want is for all of my fellow panhellenic sisters to have a successful recruitment and for the PNMs to get welcomed into their new homes! Come on girls you are almost there! Anyone can drop out of rush, how many can stick with it all the way through?

Finally, a nice reply. I feel like most girls don't know that if you find that the sorority you got a bid to reallyyyyyyy isn't right for you that you drop before your initiation. Getting a bid doesn't mean you're chained to that chapter, but it does allow you to experience Greek life...so experience it! And if you really hate it, then you can drop. At least it will be a true informed decision.

I appreciate this comment but I have a question. If you accept a bid and then realize you don't feel like you belong in said sorority and drop after 2 weeks, then will you be unable to rush again next year?

I want to say yes, but I'm not 100% positive.. Ask your Rho Gamma!

I believe you are bound to the bid for 1 year, so you can rush next spring, but any informal recruitment that may take place (and probably won't in my opinion) you cannot take part in.
