You answered your own question. They aren't that well known and they're pretty weird

They have a close relationship with AZD because of the proximity of their houses. A lot of AZD girls among others will end up at their parties because it's a short and convenient walk. It's similar to how KA and Alpha Phi are close both physcially and socially. That's also not to say that the closeness of two houses is the only factor- by that logic AZD would be tight with Lambda Chi as well- but it certainly plays a role. Because of their frequent association with a top sorority, they get lumped in with the top fraternities. People argue that this credibility is unwarranted because the guys are in actuality "weird" or "townies". Their parties as well are not the talk of the campus, although they must be respectable to some extent to warrant attention. They are not a bad fraternity, many people just feel as if they are not on par with their associated fraternities.
