phi sig?
by: curiouswhat is all the hate on phi sig for? i'm a freshman who hasn't gone through rush yet but is there anything specific that gave them that reputation? just wondering because there seems to be a lot of negative comments about them on this site and its the one sorority i really don't know anyone in/anything about

When they came back to campus they held their recruitment after regular formal recruitment. Girls that went through rush, got a bid, and then didn't accept it were not eligible to then rush Phi Sig. That meant a LOT of girls dropped out of regular recruitment as soon as their favorites dropped them instead of sticking it out. As a result, Phi Sig's founding class was made up of a lot of girls that felt entitled to be top tier...and just didn't make the cut.
Also, since they are new their sisterhood is lacking in a lot of ways. They got on probation their first semester for trying to mix before they were allowed to. They took the recruitment chair position away from a girl on their exec board because they didn't think she could do a good job - at the risk of her disaffiliating. There is a divide between the "pretty girls" and other members. BASICALLY, they put their image before sisterhood. Trust me, they've repeatedly shown their colors as mean girls and that is what the backlash is all about.

Being a part of greek life, I feel like people dont know how to label phi sig yet and their unfortunate first semester on campus gave them a really bad rep. But to be honest its a complete mixed bag, i'm always kind of shocked when I meet a girl in phi sig because they are all so different (yes, this includes some image centered girls but also some really sweet ones). Dont let this site ruin your impression of any sorority, the happiest girls at the end of rush are always the ones who went in with an open mind, just see where you "click"
