wondering about chapter dues

by: Hopeful

I would have to pay for my sororities chapter dues and was wondering how much they typically are / if it's common to get some sort of scholarship for it.
Thanks!

Dues are really all over the board, but most sororities offer scholarships and payment programs for girls that need the financial help. For ome sororities, the cost of your dues decreases as you get older (for example I now pay almost $200 less than I did when I was a freshman because of nationals fees etc.). If you need an idea of whose dues are higher and lower, just think about the chapters that you see in really fancy PR items or hear about having a ridiculous amount of mixers. It just makes sense that their dues are higher. You get what you pay for

Dues for each sorority will be listed in your recruitment packet. Some groups offer scholarships for girls (off the top of my head I know GPhi does), and almost all offer payment plans as well.

One thing I love about my chapter, I'll say it - Theta, is that the dues we pay cover everything for the whole semester. That means PR items, formal tickets, and everything in between is paid for upfront. Other groups have lower dues but have to pay for required shirts to wear at philanthropy events or buy their tickets + a ticket for their date to formal. At first I was bummed my chapter had really high dues but now I'm happy it's like that because my parents help with my dues so I'm not stuck using my own money for other sorority things during the semester. I'm not sure which other chapters do this because how every group handles money is different. Also, as dues suck said almost every chapters dues decrease each semester you're a member.

I heard they were listed in the packet. However, it's a big factor in going through recruitment for me. So I was looking for an estimate

Sorry, I can't help off the top of my head! They range from 500/600 to around 900 though. Keep in mind the numbers are alway the highest that first semester so what you see in the packet is the most you will ever pay.

Sort of related: Alpha Phi also requires you live in their house for a year and that factors into dues...but also replaces rent and meals somewhere else.
