rushing
by: WonderingSo Im just worried about recruitment and like only getting back the bottoms (like aephi, theta, adpi, phi sig, dg). I know this happens to a lot of girls. So I just want to know what it's like to be in one of those chapters and honestly if I'm faced with it, if I should drop out or stick with it? I went to the open houses and all these girls seemed nice (a little off) but obviously I'd rather be in axid or sig k.

No matter what chapter you join you will have an incredible experience. All of the sororities are really more similair than they are different. I'm in one of the sororities you considered "bottom" and live with girls in other "bottom" and "top" sororities. We all love our chapters, have so much fun, and have friends in every chapter. What chapter your in and the status of the chapter do NOT define you. Every chapter has mixers and crush parties and formals and philanthropies. We all do fun things!
No matter what you get in recruitment STICK WITH IT. You will love being in greek life and if you drop because you didn't get a "top" sorority you will end up regretting it when you see how happy your friends are in every chapter. Have an open mind and be ready for the best years of your life!

To be honest, i wouldn't go in with that kind of attitude. If you go in think of certain sororities of "bottoms" and "tops", I doubt any of the "bottoms" would want to extend you a bid either. Trust me, the girls in those 5 sororities you mentioned do not think of themselves as "bottoms" at all! And if they start to feel like a PNM is treating them with any less respect than the other chapters, they will drop them in a heartbeat!
Tell me, why do you want to be in AZD and SK? And then tell me what was "off" about the chapters you went to the open houses of? 9 times out of 10, PNMs don't have a tangible answer for some of these questions and just have the "bottom" and "top" mentality stuck in their heads.
I get it, it's hard to break away from that high school mentality of popular and not popular. Most of the people perpetuating the tier talk on here are younger members who still have yet to realize that none of that matters.
My honest opinion, stick with it no matter what to bid day and the pledge process. Recruitment is fast paced and it's once you go to your new member meetings with the rest of your pledge class and start looking for your big(!!) that you will really start to bond with the chapter! Some girls feel the connection instantly, sometimes it takes a little while. I can honestly say (and i may be biased ;] ) that being in a sorority will bring you more joy and be more fun than dropping out of recruitment. No matter WHAT sorority it is.

You shouldn't think those chapters are your "second choice". If u act like that during recruitment they're going to drop your ass and you won't be in one. Every year so many girls go in thinking "top 4 or nothing". How do u know that you fit in with them? Why do u want to be apart of something that nobody wants you? I'm just saying a good proportion of girls leave Clayton hall crying and disappointed, and it's only your fault.

A lot of girls rush and there are only so many spots in each chapters pledge classes. It is okay to have favorites in my opinion but keep an open mind in case it doesn't work out! You'll hear this 100 times in the next few weeks but I promise the process works. Good luck!

let me tell you what is going to happen to OP. It happens every year. PNM with (seemingly) good GPA and looks goes through recruitment and does not like that she doesn't get accepted back to her top choice of chapters. Then, PNM decides she just doesn't "connect" or "see herself" in the sororities she has left and drops. PNM then comes here and tells everyone that everything will be okay and that shel is better off not taking a bid from a chapter she believes she is too good for but, everything will change next year should she decide to go back through recruitment. WRONG. 90% of the time, the chapter you get freshman year is the chapter you will get as a sophomore too. ( a few cases though, I had a friend with theta and dg freshman year, and ending up joining ASA the next year. But that is out of the norm in my opinion).
SO be my guest, go into rush and drop out once you don't get your way. Makes more room for girls who DO want bids from those "bottom 5" chapters.

I know a lot of (most) girls go into recruitment wanting a top tier, but realistically about 310 of you (assuming pledge classes are around 75-80 like last year) out of 1100 will get the top 4. THE most important thing I can tell you before you go into recruitment is to not purposely be rude to the "lower tiers" during recruitment. If you think it'll help your chances of getting a top tier, IT WONT. All it will do is eliminate your chance of getting called back to those chapters when you get dropped from one of your tops. I cant even try to explain how hurtful it is when PNMs walk in thinking they're better than you and won't even dignify you with having a basic conversation. No one deserves that.

you need help if you think like that. you seem superficial and stuck up so i hope you don't get "stuck" with only bottom tiers because you are not good enough to even get called back to them. those "bottom" tiers are nice, pretty girls who surprisingly most girls who rush feel a connection with. Don't judge a group by their tier because you may be surprised how comfortable and at home you feel with those girls which is what you're supposed to feel when joining a sorority!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love! Especially the line about the "sororities you mentioned do not think of themselves as bottoms at all". it is so true. I am in an "upper tier" sorority (vom, i hate that phrase) but, I think my sorority is the BEST sorority at UD obviously. And guess what, my friends in ASA think THEY have the best sorority. and my friends in Phi sig think THEY'RE the best sorority. And DG? You guessed it, they think they are the BEST sorority. Nobody says, "oh yeah, my sorority is bottom tier..." they might say "my sorority is considered "bottom tier"" since thats all people post about on here but trust me, once you're in a sorority, you don't think of yourself as "bottom" or "top". And if any one in a sorority does, they are pretty insecure and stuck in that cool/uncool phase that should've been left in high school.
