by: FreeeshHow does the rush process work? Someone tried explaining it to me and it was too confusing...

All potential new members (PNMs) are separated into 30+ groups in alphabetical order. Each group has 2-3 group leaders, or Rho Gammas, who are all sorority women but have disaffiliated just for recruitment to provide PNMs with a neutral, no-pressure environment to help them make their choices.
Recruitment takes place the first two weekends of spring semester, so Friday-Sunday the first week then Friday-Monday the second week. There are 4 rounds followed by bid day.
First Friday/Saturday is Round 1. This is open house round and you get to visit all 11 sororities. You'll go in with your group and a few others, and talk to several sisters in the room. At the end of Saturday, you rank the chapters based on how much you liked them and your Rho Gamma will put it in the computer for you.
First Sunday is Round 2. This is sisterhood, or skit, round. You'll receive a schedule with the sororities that have invited you back to visit them. You can be asked back to as many as 8 chapters this round. You'll visit whatever chapters you have and they'll talk to you again and perform a skit at some point. This round is the most fun in my opinion because it really shows each sorority's personality and creativity! After you visit everyone on your schedule, you rank all of them again.

Monday is bid day, which is one of the most exciting days in the Panhellenic community!! You'll go back up to Clayton Hall after classes and your Rho Gammas will hand you an envelope which contains a bid to a sorority from your preference round! Should you choose to accept, you get to spend the rest of the day with your new sisters and will feel incredibly happy and loved and excited to start your journey. Bid Day was absolutely magical for me last year and I can't wait to be a part of it from the sister side this time.
I hope this helps and that you decide to go Greek! I never thought I would but it's been the best thing I have done for myself since I've come to college. Best of luck with recruitment! :)

One thing about the whole ranking chapters thing (very glad someone used the term rank instead of cut or drop). Every year PNMs go into recruitment thinking "Oh so now I get to pick who I want to go back to next round!" Then they see chapters they didn't want to go back to on their list and whine "But i keep dropping them! Why are they still on my list?" This is because you do not "drop" or "cut" chapters. You put in order which chapters you would like to return to. Your rankings will look something like this:
1. Apple
1. Orange
1. Pear
1. Banana
1. Kiwi
1. Watermelon
1. Grape
1. Mango
2. Pineapple
3. Strawberry
4. Blueberry
(sorry, fruit was the only thing i could think of to use haha)
There are 8 chapters in the "1" spot because those are the ones that, if they all choose to invite you back to the next round, you would prefer to go back to. If the chapters in the 2 3 or 4 spot invite you back but all of your number 1s invited you back, you will not have 2, 3 or 4 on your schedule for the next round. HOWEVER, if any of your number 1s don't invite you back the next round, you will go back to number 2 or 3 or 4 IF THEY INVITED YOU BACK.
Truth is, the sororities are the ones with the most say in the beginning of recruitment. They are the ones extending invites back to you. You are just saying which ones you would prefer to go back to. As long as a chapter is inviting you back, you will keep going back to it UNLESS all of your number 1s invite you back.
