rush

by: Hi

Hey I am a freshman who is really interested in rushing a sorority, I have been to all the open houses and really feel that a place in a sorority is where I belong. I'm Just sort of nervous for the rush process? I am scared to be dropped during the rush weekends, so I am just wondering how many people who really try and genuinly talk to all the chapters get dropped? Like what percentage of all the people rushing would be dropped?

I don't have an exact percentage but I can tell you from observations that most girls who genuinely stick it out all the way through rush, dont act like a snob to the chapters they don't want, and maximize their options and have good grades (at least a 3.00 or higher) and don't have a bad name for themselves (stealing a fraternity's composite for example...) all will be extended a bid.
Girls who have done this and say they got cut usually didn't like the chapter who they got a bid from or were kidding themselves with their GPA.

Do you think I would be ok with a 2.9? My classes are so difficult!

Yeah at most places, especially if they like you.

Different sororities have different GPA requirements. It will be listed in a packet you get at the start of recruitment. Some chapters require a 3.2 to get in, others take a 2.8.
I will be honest, GPAs are a HARD cut. Like even if a chapter liked you and wanted to give you a bid or invite you back next round, but their GPA requirement is a 3.0, they wouldn't be able to give it to you. Only good thing is all of these cuts happen after the first round.
You can reach out to panhel and see if they will send you the breakdown of everyone's minimum GPA requirement. You can also check out everyone's score on the Chapter Assessment Program (CAP). GPA is a factor and you can see their new member's average GPA from spring last year and maybe get a feel for it that way.

Do you best up through finals and really try to finish this semester strong! It can only help you.

wow hilarious how we both posted contradicting things haha
but seriously, if a 2.9 is above someone's requirement it's fine (like "lol" said), but if someone's requirement is a 3.0 you are out of luck.

Don't be nervous for rush. Go into each room and be yourself and you will end up where you belong.
