the first round of cuts is usually just gpa cuts for most chapters. each chapter goes by a different minimum gpa and it can change every year so no one can be sure of each one. i'd say anyone with a 3.1 and above is completely safe from gpa cuts but i've seen so many people get bids with 2.9 gpa's so i wouldn't be too concerned. as a sophomore, as long as you're involved in other stuff on campus, have a decent gpa, and are personable and friendly in rounds you usually won't have too much trouble getting invited back to chapters and getting a bid at the end

Personally, if we don’t have anything memorable about a girl to share during voting then she usually gets out in the middle of the pack. And middle of the pack can be cut if we have to make more cuts according to our advisors since we can only invite a certain number back each round. Make sure you have some useful anecdotes in your memory to share when appropriate. What I mean by that is don’t just interject a neat story or fact about yourself randomly because that would be weird. But if we are talking about what we did over winter session, and you took a class or volunteered don’t just say “I studied” or “I spent time at the animal shelter”. Say “I was watching up on coursework because I wanted to get ahead/I want to improve my gpa/I love school or whatever.” Or “I spent 6 hours a week at our SPCA and I loved hanging out with the animals/it made me feel good to help/I want to help more in the future.” Elaborate, make it memorable. And if you literally binge watched Netflix and babysat, tell us about the show you watched and what you liked about it, but more than just that it was good background TV.
Honestly also if I’m just hitting it off with a PNM not talking about anything in particular but I REALLY want her to come back, I’ll make you sound more interesting during voting :)

and i just want to say you might not get invited back to the max amount of chapters after open house round because of your gpa, but all you need at the end is one chapter to give you a bid! don't get discouraged, while a 2.9 isn't a fantastic gpa for recruitment and it may hold you back slightly it doesn't mean you can't get a bid
