by:

obviously you just need like 2.5 to rush, but i have 2.7, is it still worth it or am i just gonna get dropped? i’m a sophomore so if i don’t do it this year i’ll probably never do it

Are you a guy or girl? Most fraternities are way more relaxed about GPA if you're a chill, cool guy.

Sororities usually each have a higher GPA requirement than the panhel one. Sometimes it’s a national requirement sometimes it’s just that local chapters. Some chapters use that gpa as a hard cut (like my chapter cuts anyone below a 3.0) others it’s just a general guide/rule not an absolute. Girls with 2.7s get bids but not always. It’s worth a shot. Just keep an open mind. Also what it’s worth I have also seen juniors get bids....

Sorry, I won’t admit my chapter on here 😬
But that’s why I said keep an open mind and don’t go in with favorites. That’s just good advice for anyone not just girls with low gpa.

Honestly same advice, rush with an open mind but no one will be able to tell you for what reasons a chapter drops you. Could be GPA (2.9 isn’t that bad but isn’t stellar either) but also could be not enough girls you met voted you high enough to come back.
Gpa is an important topic for PNMs to think about but I’d hate for someone to not rush with a 2.9 because they think it won’t be worth it.

A 2.7 is not a great GPA to rush with. That’s lower than a lot of chapters’ minimums. Expect to not get invited back to very many chapters after the first or second round tbh

It varies and not every chapter uses it as a hard cut off. You’ll get a pamphlet with GPAs, cost estimates, and fast facts for chapters after signing up for rush and at the orientation.

the highest requirement any sorority has is a 2.65, the fact that this girl won’t say what her sorority is kinda shows she’s not exactly being honest. yes a higher gpa helps but this isn’t going to rule you out or anything.

How would you know this? Chapters set their standards individually and they could be whatever they want them to be. You could set minimum at a 3.5 if you want, But you’d be in danger of not having enough PNMs back to the next round and therefore not meeting quota at the end. Also why would anyone admit what chapter they’re in on here? PNMs are so impressionable and shouldn’t be interacting with sorority women anyway

My chapter had a minimum after open house round higher than a 2.65 last recruitment as well. We’re allowed to invite back a certain amount each round that are below the minimum, and nationals tells us how many were allowed to. These are girls who are very high on our list already. You clearly can’t know each chapters membership selection process so don’t go spreading misinformation. They all do it differently

Look at all of the average gpas of sororities on the CAP scores (easily googled) they’re all above 3.2. And 2018 new member GPAs all averaged above 3.0 also.
So yeah girls might get in who have lower gpas but it isn’t likely or their options are limited. And most chapters might not have a “policy” they share with general members about cutting at a certain gpa, but when you HAVE to cut a certain number of girls each round and most of them are elementary ed majors from north jersey who played field hockey and volunteered with best buddies and love to binge Netflix, the leadership team will look at the 500 girls the members want to invite back and cut the 200 girls with a gpa below a certain level.

I rushed as a sophomore last year with a 2.7 and only had 4 houses back after open house (Pi Phi, Theta, DG, Aephi). It obviously could be other factors, and I’m sure some would’ve dropped me anyway, but I do believe I was dropped because of my gpa, at least for a few houses. There were a few houses who I’ve heard had higher gpa’s that I really believe I would have been asked back to if I had a 3.0+. I really think it’s important to rush, especially because it’s really your last chance. I think being in a sorority is amazing if you find the right one. It didn’t really work out for me, but who knows if it was my gpa. There are some top sororities that take low gpa’s, so it really just depends on the person. The biggest piece of advice I have is to rush and give it your all, but realize that getting dropped by houses is a real possibility. BTW rushing as a sophomore isn’t a big deal because my roommates all rushed with 3.0+ gpa’s and they all got back sororities that dropped me.
