fraternity rush numbers (spring)
by: Uhhhhh
Can we talk about a legitimate issue here for a second?
Anyone notice the lack in numbers of rushees for Spring? Word is only about 300 guys came out in total. A lot of fraternities with 30-50 heads during rush. All the guys who have callbacks, have callbacks at 2 or 3 other organizations as well.
Why is this? I assume with the recent negative light the media is shedding on fraternities, it becomes a huge turn off. I know Spring is usually a smaller rush... but this is in a league of its own.

Probably that. Fraternity culture in general needs to shift big time. I know saying that will get a lot of flack from the guys here but seriously The next generation of young men entering college are not into PAYING DUES to get yelled at to chug a bottle of burnets till they vomit while solving a jugsaw puzzle together. Just so they can party? And what in the name of BROTHERHOOD? Let me tell you people can actually get into parties at UD pretty easily once they figure themselves out after freshman first semester. I don’t NEED to join a fraternity in order to party. So what else do the fraternities have to offer? They need to figure that out if they don’t want to become obsolete.
Sororities have definitely proven their value. They actually do stuff at their chapter meetings like host personal finance lecturers and mock interviews for jobs and leadership trainings. They’re definitely better at philanthropy than most fraternities too. Fraternities are going to have to figure out sooner rather than later how to make themselves more Valuable and worthwhile to guys.

1) Spring rush has always historically been smaller numbers than Fall rush.
2) UD, in particular, has it out for Greek organizations and suspend groups for even the smaller things.
3) If you compare the social scene of the school to where it was 4 years ago, you'd see a big difference. The school has ramped up the cops on patrol and bust dages really early on if possible. Same with parties.
4) The freshman class may be a little softer than past freshman classes due to the backlash against fraternities at other schools. There hasn't been an incident here in over 10 years.
