sisterhood

Which sororities have the best sisterhood?
I’ve wanted to be in a sorority since I knew what they were. THE most important aspect to me is sisterhood. I am going into recruitment with an extremely open mind; however, this is when sororities are on their “best behavior” and I’m sure that they will all seem like they have great sisterhood. This response won’t impact my decision during rush, but it is something I would like to keep in the back of my mind.

I’m not in a sorority and don’t plan on it at this point because I’m a junior but I have observed people and noticed that AEPhi girls will always say hello to each other and most times by name . I am basing this on when they are wearing their shirts or sweatshirts that I know who they are. A few other friends of mine even commented on this fact. So I’m not saying that is your forever sorority but as far as sisterhood goes they seem to have a very strong one.

They also haze so 🤷🏼‍♀️ Don’t tell me it isn’t true because my freshman year roommate went AEPhi and it happened.
AXiD, ADPi and DG have the best sisterhoods IMO. not fake, they like each other, and are always together.

I can’t even believe what I am reading. Sounds ridiculous to say that hazing is making the pledges do cute skits. It’s so pathetic what brainwashing is going on. What next? Making pledges pet puppies and hug other pledges?. Oh my, how horrible.

You’re missing the point. It seems harmless to have new members do dumb things like skits but singling out new members and making them do something that the rest of the chapter doesn’t have to do is considered hazing by UD. Especially when you think about how embarrassed or nervous that might make some girls. And what are the consequences for not doing it? What if you don’t have time because of your classes? What’s the consequence for not doing the things the older members asked you to do? I’d never even heard of the skit thing until I read this thread, but it’s a good example of how small things actually can be considered hazing by UD and even though it may seem dumb it can still have a significant impact on a girl. Also even if it did make the pledge class stronger, it doesn’t make the sorority stronger. Because then the new members are put below the older members, like they don’t have a say and the older members opinions are the only thing that matters. It breaks up the sorority in harmful ways. But yeah forcing new members to do (or not do) anything, no matter how dumb it seems is hazing.

I am not missing the point. I understand what you are saying and think it is ridiculous. I obviously don't agree with the school if that's what they believe constitutes hazing as well. Clearly you and anyone who thinks that way simply should not be in a sorority. I'm not trying to be rude but if you find these rituals offensive then Greek life isn't for you.

Skits and things might have been a tradition for your chapter (I know it was for mine) but that is absolutely not a part of ritual. You must not be in a sorority because you would know the difference between ritual and hazing. The amount of times we go over hazing prevention stuff you SHOULD know. Or you’re just not a very productive member for your chapter.

I think there is a bigger issue here than just the fact of making new members do skits and stuff. All of the sororities know exactly how UD and Panhel define hazing. It is a strict definition and every sorority girl who has been through hazing prevention training would agree that making new members do skits, or memorize names is considered hazing by UD / panhel (even if they personally don’t agree.) So I think the problem is that sororities that do those things know they’re breaking a UD rule and how strict it is, but still do it and risk getting in trouble because of something as dumb as a “skit”. why is it worth risking getting kicked off for something that some people would argue over whether is hazing? It feels like a power move and might say something about the leadership and common sense of the sorority. That’s just the input of an outsider. The low key, “barely hazing” hazing is actually pretty disgusting but just in different ways than dangerous hazing
