rush

by:

Out of curiosity, are sophomores going through Rush not considered equally with freshman? I went through Rush, I have a decent B+ GPA; am attractive and have had modeling jobs and been recruited by photographers for modeling jobs; am athletic and a retired elite athlete; not terribly weird or awkward. Yet I was eliminated by all but the so called lower tier for sororities. Can anyone make sense of this? I understand this is somewhat random, but I would appreciate some insight. Is it worth continuing this process?

What are you using as s basis for tier? The numbers are not all telling since a member can rank. Go through the process and check out the sororities. You e been a freshman so which friends are in which sorority? That can be more telling as to where you fit best.

My advice would be to stop thinking in terms of "tiers" and start thinking about who you had enjoyable conversations with and where you connected most. Unless knowing you're in a top tier is all you're looking for in a sisterhood (it really shouldn't be) your modeling, sports background, and being "not terribly awkward or weird" (rude comment about lower tiers btw) are rather trivial.

Maybe you got dropped by so many houses cause you're a try-hard and current members are looking for true friends to grow their sisterhood. Who knows. Just go with the process.

This process isn't "random." The houses you don't belong in dropped you. They don't care about your looks or modeling career or athletic ability if you come across as full of yourself or shallow. Go back to the houses you have left with an open mind, one of them is probably where you belong.

And how is that in 25 minutes someone could determine that someone who is friendly and making conversation; is not worthy of their friendship? This is obviously your conclusion. If that is not random, what is it exactly. Sounds like a snap decision on your part, (&) which apparently is what has been happening here.

Who do you have left? You've only been to each of them once for 25 minutes and maybe talked to one girl the entire time. Give it a chance.

That's exactly my point, these girls who met me for 25 minutes in a random fashipn looked at me and either decided I am shallow, which I am not; or that I am a snob, which I am not, and decided I am not worth their friendship. I guess people who are different and not cookie cutter are not welcome in most of these sororities.

Sororities are all looking for different things. I got dropped by some that I really liked/thought I had amazing conversations there. Some drop for GPA--my roommates got cut from those. Some are based on an "image" they wish to portray. I still have sigma kappa and alpha phi left. I didn't feel I fit in those though, as I am really invested in academics and I didn't get quite the best vibe after I left the room. For me, I look at it as where I fit in, not where I want to be based on looks and what my friends in frat think. I want to be with girls who can see me at my highest and love me at my lowest. I would like to have a family where I can stand out and learn a lot about unique people, not just people who are from the same hometown or have the same friends. Like I mentioned before, I am involved in academics and I'm also not from anywhere remotely from the east coast either. I was a model, cheerleader, and ran cross country in high school, so I'd like to think I'm in good shape (still can't pass up those nugs though). All in all, I am a little disappointed I was dropped from certain houses, but I'm happy looking forward because I now see why I would be a better fit in others. (: If you're like me, you like diversity and appreciate uniqueness, sororities look for people who generally fit in, not stand out and have a completely different attributes. Maybe sorority life here isn't for you or our greek life isn't as broad to cover girls like yourself and myself.

Honestly, UD doesn't have an explicit ranking. Some are obviously known for being hotter than others, but all in all, you can't decide what is top tier/middle tier/bottom tier based on what frat guys think are hot. If you're hot, maybe it will be good for you to stand out in a sorority that you at first didn't think was for you, instead of being just a face in a crowd at another one.

If you are basing it on what frat guys think, frat guys don't really care what sorority you're in, as long as you're hot.

Also, you probably shouldn't being rushing a sorority because you heard it's the best/most attractive one. There are hot girls in almost every sorority. This is about sisterhood--feeling like you fit in and don't have to be perfect all the time. Find things you have in common like academics and sports or social life.

Wow "lower tier" sororities cut PNMs too ?? Nooooo way.
Jk. Yeah all sororities make cuts. If they don't see you in their chapter they just don't. Focus on the ones that still have you on their list. They're the ones that see something in you!

No, people judge your sense of entitlement due to your accomplishments and wordiness as a negative attribute. If you think you belong somewhere due to the way you look, which from what it sounds like is one of your major "accomplishments" here, you're lucky you have anything back at this point. The number of modeling jobs you've done will contribute nothing to a chapter.

I guess "Bye" has a really bad attitude and low self image and is one of the haters warned about on this website. I hope Bye is not a member of any house that would welcome me. Haters can stay home by themselves.
