Important Rush Tips

by: confused freshman

What do I need to know for rush? What are people looking for? I feel like I don’t even know how to prove I’d be an asset to a sorority if I can only speak with them for 5 min….

Answer questions with detail and try to elaborate rather than just one sentence answers. For display since it’s so short we really want to know as much as possible about you beyond the surface level stuff like major and hometown. It’s hard bc the convos are so quick but definitely focus on selling yourself because the most cuts are made the first round. In later rounds is the time to ask more questions about the active members to see if we’re a good fit for you but for display focus on getting yourself out there. Come with a funny story from first sem bc I remember getting asked a lot about my favorite memory and having a fun story all set to tell was definitely helpful and helps you stand out in display and in later rounds. Everyone’s having the same conversations all day. It gets boring and repetitive so don’t be afraid to bring up something stupid random or funny out of the blue it makes it better. Also people will probably ask you random weird questions because of this. Best advice for this is say the first thing that comes to mind bc it’s usually the funniest answer and when u think too hard you end up coming up w a boring answer. Just my advice and what worked for me as someone who went into rush knowing no one and not going on a single rush date. Don’t beat yourself up if you get dropped bc it’s so hard to put yourself out there and be distinguishable in 5 mins

Ask a few questions back and be interested in learning about us so you can decide if we’re a good fit for you. but don’t pelt us with questions because trying to get to know you
