Question about Rites
by: DrakeHey so idk anything about how rites works but I’m assuming someone in Greek life does. Because it didn’t happen this year does that mean Vanderbilt has double the budget to host it next year??!! Basically can we get someone huge to come next year?

Unfortunately, that's not how budgets work. Also, considering they cut funding for Rites this year before rona and that Vandy is slated to lose a lot of money I would expect the rites budget to be even smaller next year if anything.
Kind of unfair for them to make cuts and gouge us on summer classes when the whole point of our MASSIVE endowment is to be drawn upon in rainy days like this, but Vandy administrators are among the highest paid and greediest in the country so its not out of character for them.

Unfortunately, thats not how endowments work lol students like to think that just because a school has a large endowment that means the school has that money just sitting around—thats not how it works. Admin will likely be taking a pay cut and employees will have to be let go. Vandy is not just losing money on housing, but also on the many summer programs that had to be cancelled, fees for tech like zoom, continuing to pay graduate student workers even though many arent currently working, etc. all things considered, having a smaller rites budget next year isnt exactly unreasonable. The vandy admin has a lot they could improve upon but calling them greedy for this specific thing is kind of silly
