Rushing out of state
by: ooshi! I’m from Texas but no one else from my school is coming / goes to vandy and I’m curious if this will hurt me during rush. The schools my friends go to rush is a huge deal and if you’re out of state you’re kinda sol with rush and I’m hoping that’s not the case at vandy

I’m from Texas and didn’t know anything about the sororities at Vanderbilt until I actually rushed, I hadn’t even heard of greekrank nor did I care enough to look this stuff up. I ended up in the sorority I wanted (a “top tier” one I suppose), and I’d say the only house that heavily rushes friend groups with connections to girls already in the house is theta. Obviously knowing girls in any house will raise your chances of being recognized during rush, but for the most part the other houses care more about the impression you make during rush as well as throughout first semester on campus (you’ll probably have girls in sororities in some of your classes, and they’ll likely have their eyes on you even if you think they don’t). The more involved you are on campus, the more likely you are to meet upperclassmen, so get involved w orgs you are interested in and find your people, even if they aren’t in Greek life.

also I want to add that I’m not trying to bash theta for rushing girls who are friends w older thetas, that’s simply what happens. they do also take some girls who are more “random” aka not part of one of the big friend groups that they rushed. and of course other sororities end up bidding multiple girls who are already friends, because similar vibes attract
