pref night and how it works
by: Upperclassman
For freshmen curious how pref night works:
If you pref two houses:
1) the algorithm checks if you’re in your first choice’s list of top choices. If you are, you get a bid from them woohoo!
2) if not, they check if you’re in second choice’s list of top choices. If you are, you get a bid from them (still woohoo!!!)
3) if not, it goes back to checking your top choice’s second set of choices. The same process repeats (if your top choice has you in their second tier of choices, you’ll get a bid from them, otherwise it checks the second choice house’s list). This is why putting two houses down is important.
If you go to two houses but only put down one:
1) the algorithm sees if you’re in your choice’s top picks. If you are, you get a bid.
2) otherwise, you do not get a bid.
Please don’t feel bad about yourself or feel like a house hated you if you end up not getting your first choice. Plenty of girls end up in their second choice house and LOVE it. Be optimistic
