how rushing works
by: frosh PNMHow does sorority rushing work exactly? Like do more competitive sororitys tend to cut more people at the beginning, and only keep the girls they really want until the end? Or do they keep a bunch of people and then just rank them lower on their lists?

Thanks to RFM the most competitive sororities, based on historic return rates, have to release more PNMs in earlier rounds rather than later. First rounds for those are generally gpa cuts, other risks, just not knowing anyone, etc. By third round, legacies move to the top of the lists if they weren’t cut early, then everyone else. There can be tough and surprising results after third round depending on both mutual selection and where you are on the lists. These sororities do go into rush with loose lists made up of PNMs they know or have gotten to know that they think would be a good fit. Mutual selection plays a role as these sororities may cross rush. The rounds still matter for these as it can affect where you are on the list which can really come into play toward the end. Lists and rounds matte but in that order on a continuum.

Although its called Mutual Selection, the sororities have the upper hand during recruitment since their choice of whom to invite counts more than any pnms choice of where they would like to attend a party. Popular houses by recruitment rules must cut more pnms than less popular homes do after each round; even then popular homes will lose women they feel will work well within their groups.
