diverse rushing
by: HonestlyWill rushing as a minority help or hurt you during rushing? Are sororities, including "top tier" sororities actively trying to recruit minorities due to the changes for inclusivity from the Greek life office?

honestly, it's not hard to see that certain sororities have certain "looks" while others are more diverse. Obviously, if you stand out and fit the personality type you can still get top tier, but from seeing it first-hand I think being a minority is a limitation. all people just have implicit biases, even minority girls themselves. If a minority PNM and a white PNM both have the same personality type, upperclassmen friends, gpa, etc. but only one bid can be given, it's not hard to assume that most likely, the white PNM, who fits in more with the sorority "look" will get the bid. just the facts. nothing really OGL can do about this, it's just the way people think.

Keep in mind that the number of minority girls who rush is also relatively small compared to non-minorities. If the majority of people who rush are white, the majority of a house is going to be white. If more minorities rush one year, there'll be more per house. It just varies

i'm a little sick of "not many minority girls rush to begin with" being used as an excuse for not having diverse sororities. that's like saying "the reason that there aren't more women in politics is because women aren't interested to begin with." if there weren't a precedent set already that the realm of sorority life was created by and for a certain demographic, there wouldn't be a problem with diversity. so yeah, i would say being of a minority group is gonna be a bit of a disadvantage at some houses. that being said, there are also a handful of houses that are noticeably more diverse and open-minded and don't care about whether you fit the house aesthetic.

All sororities should be actively recruiting minorities, including top tiers. Several minority women feel uncomfortable rushing due to the social landscape of the school. This is issue needs to be addressed because minorities are not given a fair shot in actuality. The greek life office needs to do more and so do chapters themselves in order to allieviate this problem and make chapters more diverse and accepting of other types while also maintaining their identities

The NPC utilizes no formal, united method of diversity quotas during any type of recruitment. Each NPC group develops and maintains its own private method of membership selection. FWIW any group that does not seek and initiate what some might define as "a diverse membership" may expect to be stigmatized on the likes of greekrank.
