are there "bad" fraternities?

by:

I'm coming from a school where there are 12 frats, and while there still were tiers, the consensus was that 9/12 frats were considered "good", in that they had good sorority relations, the guys were actually cool, and people actually showed up to their parties.

Is this the case at Bucknell, where there are a bunch of fraternities that are considered "good," in that you'll have a good time being in any one of them, and ones that are considered "bad," in that they're not worth joining?

Even most of the guys in the lower tiers like their fraternities and typically are able to recruit full pledge classes. With DU gone I don't think there is any really bad fraternity to join anymore. KDR is new and sort of finding their way still, but not bad. They are really trying to make a name for themselves still. Lambda is pretty accepting and moving away from their lazy stoner image that they used to have. Chi Phi is like a quarter full of guys who could have gotten into any frat but went Chi Phi anyways because they recruit a certain type of guy "nicer" involved guys on campus really actively. They all have girls that are into them, they just may not be partying with the "hottest" girls on campus.

Pretty spot on. All of the "lower tier" frats did really well this year in terms of their pledge classes. Of course there is a big difference in quality between your average fiji and chi phi pledge, but there's not a whole lot of difference between your average lambda and tke pledge. Actually, this year most of the lambda and chi phi classes were all the guys who rushed tke and ksig and did not get in, so the quality has gone up over previous years, especially since phi psi got dropped. Ranking them is tough, but overall it goes lambda, chi phi, and kdr.

I guess what I mean to say, are any of the fraternities irrelevant?

Lambda, KDR, DU are pretty irrelevant - if you don't have a good downtown super saturday presence like these guys do, in my opinion, that just really hurts. They're a great way to meet a variety of people outside of some dingy basement or blacklight room.

This is true. Those three don't throw good super sats, and it does hurt them. Out of the bunch, Lambda throws pretty good mixers, but they can't expect to make a name for themselves without good super sats, which is ironic considering they have so many downtown houses this year.

Kappa sigma is the only "relevant" fraternity on campus. For that matter, the only "relevant" organization of any kind
