...that even the non-Greek world knows of these fraternities and sororities. They’ve made headlines for one reason or another. They were notorious, or the most rushed. They robbed banks, or raised the most for their philanthropy.

Here’s our list of the sororities and fraternities who make headlines.

10. Alpha Kappa Delta Phi - UC Santa Cruz

Known for running an international drug trafficking ring, the Alpha Kappa Delta Phi’s from UC Santa Cruz were busted in 2016 when their ring was discovered. Along with a fraternity from the school, the gang was arrested with over $100,000 worth of drugs -- predominantly ecstacy.

You would have heard of this because the forums lit up on GreekRank.com. When the sorority’s president reprimanded and threatening sisters for being “weird,” hurting the sorority’s reputation among frats, the email caught fire and went viral. You can guess what happened next.

Founded in 1825 at Union College in Schenectady, New York, Kappa Alpha is the oldest fraternity in North America.

7.  Sigma Chi - National

Sigma Chi’s across the country are known for their philanthropic efforts. The fraternity has raised more than $3 million for their philanthropy to fight cancer, the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The pledge to raise $10 million by the end of 2022, and if all goes well, it will be the largest gift to a single recipient in Greek history.

6. Sigma Alpha Epsilon - National

Considered the wealthiest fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has a list of some of the most billionaires for a fratnernity. The names that make the list are within the top 200 richest people in North America, including Edward Johnson III (No. 62), Paul Tudor Jones II (president, University of Virginia, No. 144), and Rick Caruso (president, University of Southern California, No. 179).

5. Tau Kappa Epsilon - National

TKE’s make the list because of the most amount of active chapters the fraternity has, with 246 active chapters and colonies in North America. That means over 278,000 initiated members nationally.

4. Kappa Kappa Gamma - Southern Methodist University

The Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters win biggest blackmail. Years ago, one of the sisters filed a lawsuit over a video that leaked that showed the girl dancing topless at a party inside the house. How much was it settled for? $1 million.

3. Kappa Alpha Theta - National

Because they’re famous. The Kappa Alpha Theta’s have the largest number of famous or celebrity alumni. Melinda Gates, Sheryl Crow, Laura Bush, and Judith Miller are all considered greats, and the list of other well-known alumni goes on.

2. Alpha Phi Alpha - National

The first African American Greek fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, is famous not because it was a first, but for the number of famous or celebrity alumni. Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, Lionel Ritchie, Jesse Owens, Justice Thurgood Marshall, and more big names top the list.

1.Phi Mu - University of Alabama

The University of Alabama’s Phi Mu sorority makes the list for having what’s considered the best sorority house in the States. The $13 million, home is almost 40,000 square feet, multiples tories, and features everything from a baby grand piano and to a chandelier that once hung in NYC’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
